What is eMR?

Electronic medicine reconciliation (eMR) involves using computers to ensure the right medication is given to the right patient at the right dose and at the right time.  It is a process that identifies the most accurate list of a patient’s current medicines – including name, dose, frequency, and route – and comparing them to the current list in use, recognising any discrepancies, and documenting any changes.  The result is a complete, up-to-date list of medicines.

What is ePA?

Electronic prescribing and administration (ePA) allows medication to be prescribed and administered electronically in hospitals.  It involves using computers to generate, trasmit and fill prescriptions, taking the place of paper and faxed prescriptions. In hospitals, the paper medication chart is replaced by computers – health professionals prescribe medicines using computers and medicines are checked out ready to give to the patients using computers.
